Association of Recovery Schools advocates for the promotion,
strengthening, and expansion of secondary and post-secondary programs
designed for students and families committed to achieving success in both
education and recovery.
ARS exists to support such schools which, as components of the
recovery continuum of care, enroll students committed to being abstinent
from alcohol and other drugs and working a program of recovery. |

University House in Minneapolis, MN provides safe, affordable,
drug and alcohol-free housing for college students 18 years of age or
older. The concept of the Student Sober House is for is for residents to
be self-governing while complying with 12 basic requirements in order to
remain clean and sober and successfully pursue education at the college
level. |
 | In 1997, the
Augsburg College StepUP Program was created to address the special
needs of students in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. At that
time, the resources for recovering college students were extremely
limited. The original plan for the StepUP Program included chemical free
housing, a minimum sobriety requirement, weekly individual meetings with
staff, a contract calling for standards of behavior, and a weekly
community meeting. |
