Attend an Admitted Student Event

Admitted Student Events are your opportunity to discover all that Portland State University has to offer. You’ll get the chance to ask questions about financial aid, learn about campus housing options, interact with admissions counselors and current student leaders, and more.?All attendees are entered in a raffle to win scholarships and swag at all?Admitted Student Receptions and Webinars.

We are offering several opportunities to participate in Admitted Student Events in person and virtually, including receptions exclusively for international students.

Apply for Your Student Visa

Once you complete your application, you will be reviewed for admission and you can begin providing the materials needed for PSU to issue you an I-20 form (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status). Admission to PSU is required for us to issue an I-20. However, you can begin the process before you receive an admissions decision.

Confirm Your Enrollment at PSU*

If you are ready to commit you can confirm your enrollment and claim your Viking status by submitting the Enrollment Confirmation Form. Enrollment confirmation is required to sign up for New Student Orientation, secure a PSU ID card, and register for classes.

Set Up Your PSU Student Account*

Go to the?Activating Your Odin Account website?to get started. If assistance is needed during the process, call our OIT Help Desk at 503-725-HELP (4357).?If you already have a PSU Student (Odin) Account, but cannot log in to your application account, review the instructions to reset your password.?

Submit Missing Documents*

While you are still in your home country, make arrangements to obtain any official transcripts, degree certificates, or test score reports that you have not yet submitted to PSU. If your admission letter does not indicate that you need to submit additional official documents, you may skip this step. Review our?Official Records Policy?for more information and instructions for sending transcripts and other documents to PSU.

Complete?New Student Orientation*

New Student Orientation is an essential part of your undergraduate college experience, provides a foundation for success, and is?required for all incoming undergraduate students. New Student Orientation will provide you with details about campus life, student services, degree requirements, and, upon completion, will provide you with course registration access for your first term.

Students beginning the Intensive English Language Program (ESL courses) should contact the Intensive English Language Program for information about orientation. Students enrolled in an IELP pathway?will register for classes after you arrive on-campus.

Update your Chosen Name

If you do not want to interact with PSU using your legal name, you may update your information through PSU’s chosen name process. Fill out the First Name Override Form to tell us your chosen name and submit your completed form to the Queer Resource Center or the Registrar's Office. Completion of this process effectively replaces your legal name in PSU systems so that your chosen name displays during your time here.?

Submit MMR Vaccine Form*

Oregon law requires international students show evidence of immunity to measles before registering for their second term of enrollment.

Complete the Required Understanding Sexual Misconduct and Resources Module*

All PSU students are required to complete the Understanding Sexual Misconduct and Resources Module. This training module is designed to increase awareness about sexual violence on college campuses in addition to providing students with resources to cope with sexual violence at PSU. It is mandatory that all students complete this module.

Once you’ve set up your student account, your PSU email address will be activated. You will continue to receive email correspondence about your next steps and opportunities through the email address you used to apply. However, you should check your PSU account regularly for current student communications.

Apply for Campus Housing

Students are able to complete a Housing Contract once they have been admitted to Portland State University. To apply, you must have set up your student account (see above). You can log in to the Housing Portal 24 hours after you've activated your student account. Learn more about your housing options. You must be admitted to PSU to submit a housing contract.

The priority deadline to submit a contract is June 15. Students who apply by this date and are open to any unit option will be guaranteed housing.

Complete Your Math and/or Chemistry Placement Tests (if required)

Students with?specific majors?need to complete the?Math Placement Test?and/or the Chemistry Placement Assessment. You should?complete the Math Placement Test and Chemistry Placement Assessment before attending New Student Orientation. You?can?complete the tests after orientation, but you may have difficulty registering for some courses.?

Find out if you need to take the Math Placement Test?and/or the Chemistry Placement Assessment.

All?Summer Scholars?are required to complete the math placement test regardless of major.

Visit Campus

We?offer?a variety of?virtual and in-person visit opportunities?to introduce you to PSU’s academics and student resources. Join us for one of our many?virtual or in-person sessions?or?connect?with an Admissions Counselor or Student Ambassador.

Prepare to depart your home country, make sure you have everything you need for your travel and your life in Portland. Plan your travel to Portland and to PSU.

Review Your Health Insurance Options

PSU requires that all undergraduate international?students maintain comprehensive health insurance to ensure that students stay healthy and in the classroom. The?PSU Health Insurance Plan?is major medical health insurance providing preventative, routine, and specialized health benefits and students are automatically enrolled and billed each term. Those who have comparable outside health insurance can?apply to waive the PSU Health Insurance Plan.

Get Your PSU ID Card

You can get your new student ID card in-person once you are registered for the upcoming term courses and arrive on campus. No appointment needed. ID services is located in Fariborz Maseeh Hall (FMH) Student Services Lounge and is open Monday - Friday, 9am to 5pm.
